It's been a while since I've taken a film class, and also since I've really shot anything. I recently acquired a Nizo, and am totally psyched to start shooting again. My question: If I want to shoot outdoors at night (stars, moon, etc.) will the new Ektachrome 64T be a good stock, or the E100? I've only got one roll of K40 left, and I'm kind of hanging on to it for something special.
Thanks,
Milo

Re: FIlm Stock Question
Thu, November 1, 2007 - 11:59 AMI've never tried to shoot stars/moon/night with super-8. Usually, there's not enough light.
Just get the fastest film you can, and good luck!

Re: FIlm Stock Question
Wed, November 21, 2007 - 1:15 PMif it's a choice between the 64T and E100 go for the 100. If you're trying to shoot objects or people your going to have to provide an artificial light source and open the aperture up. but if the stars and moon are your subject, your going to probably need a tripod and you will definitely need to open up all the way. even then i don't know if it will turn out. the best thing to do is get 400 speed or higher. i'm not sure if they make those speeds for super 8. good luck. -

Re: FIlm Stock Question
Tue, February 19, 2008 - 11:15 AMI've got some 500ASA super 8 stock in the fridge right now from Kodak so you can get pretty fast stock, but stars... Not sure how little specks of light will do against super 8's grain. The moon sure, with a good lens, but stars may be pushing your luck. Let us know how it works out! Any chance you're contemplating the upcoming eclipse? That'd be some rockin' footage if you can get it. Maybe a nice time lapse! -
